A Privilege to Serve

Garden Town Director, Naisha Polaine, has paid tribute to Linda Haysey who has retired from local politics.

First elected as a councillor for Hertford Rural South in 2005, Linda was the Leader of East Herts Council for the last eight years and a voting member on the Harlow & Gilston Garden Town Board.

Under Linda’s leadership, East Herts’ Planning Committee agreed to approve 10,000 homes for the Garden Town in February and March of this year, unlocking a minimum of £90m in infrastructure investment that will serve and support residents already living and working in both Harlow and Gilston.

“Linda Haysey has played a huge part in our five council partnership and moving the Garden Town towards the delivery stage in Gilston,” explained Naisha.

“She recognised that the Garden Town growth was a once in a lifetime opportunity to not only provide homes for the next generation but also put the wellbeing of communities at the heart of the way these new places will be designed and delivered.

“Her ambition, like ours, is that we enable good quality neighbourhoods in Harlow and Gilston where people can live, work, raise a family and socialise.

“We hope that Linda enjoys her retirement and there’s no doubt that her leadership and decision making across the Garden Town project will benefit existing residents and the generations that follow.”

Linda Haysey, who announced her retirement prior to last week’s elections, said: “It has been a privilege to serve the residents of East Herts for nearly two decades.

“I would like to thank councillors, officers, and all those who work tirelessly to make this district a place to be proud of.”
