With Harlow New Town designer, Sir Frederick Gibberd, recognising the importance of bike riding as an affordable mode of transport over 75 years ago, there’s more than 30 miles of cycling networks locally with most places across the town reachable inside 30 minutes on two wheels and pedal power.
Both of Britain’s premier male and female touring bike races have been in Harlow over the last 15 months and the town’s cycling infrastructure is set for future growth with the Garden Town’s Sustainable Transport Corridors which will prioritise non-car use in the years to come.
Essex County Council have already confirmed two new cycling routes as part of the Garden Town with money from their Active Travel Fund.
The money will see the construction of a dedicated route for cyclists, pedestrians, and other non-car users from Elizabeth Way to Fifth Avenue and the design of a walking and cycling path connecting Post Office Road to Sheering Road.
If you want to learn to ride a bike or need a refresher then Essex County Council’s Safer, Greener, Healthier cycling courses can help you with the basics free of charge.
