Residents can find out more about the Harlow & Gilston Garden Town and Harlow town centre regeneration projects at a brand new drop in community space in the Harvey Centre.
Officially opened by Harlow Council’s Cllr Dan Swords, Cllr Michael Hardware and HGGT’s Naisha Polaine, the Discover Harlow community space gives residents a chance to speak with both the Council and Garden Town teams about Harlow’s future.
The Discover Harlow hub launch follows Harlow Council’s recent decision to endorse the Garden Town’s Infrastructure Development Plan which will see £1.3 billion invested into enhancing the town and the infrastructure that supports the community.
Funded by Government and the Garden Town partnership, Discover Harlow will host consultation events about the town centre and Garden Town plans.
Residents will be able to learn more about specific projects such as the new town centre arts and cultural quarter and the new transport interchange hub that will upgrade the town’s current bus station.
The drop in community space was called for by residents through the Garden Town’s Your Quality of Life consultation project and HGGT’s Independent Chair, Guy Nicholson, commented: “These are very exciting times for Harlow, and without doubt, they herald the start of another chapter in the history of the town.
“Harlow has an extraordinary and unique opportunity before it, transitioning from a 20th century New Town to 21st century Garden Town.
“Behind this transition are five Councils working together to deliver for Harlow and the partners are committed to levering in the investment that will benefit existing residents first and support new residents as they come to join the community.
“The Discover Harlow drop in space gives residents access to information about their town and their neighbourhood to find out about the plans for the future and what it will mean.
“Regeneration can be challenging for everyone, and it can herald changes that, for some of us, can be worrying.
“But Harlow’s team are working hard to ensure that regeneration works for residents and for future generations.
“The team is determined to ensure that Harlow is a thriving, prosperous town to live and grow up in, that it is inclusive and embraces enterprise and entrepreneurship.
“By weaving all this into Harlow’s future, and the Council and Garden Town team believes that by working together we can, then Harlow is onto a winner.”
