HGGT are exploring options to lend out electric cargo bikes (e-cargo bikes) to local organisations to make it easier to move goods, equipment and services around the Garden Town and to see if an e-cargo bike is the right choice in the long term.
You don’t need to be a seasoned cyclist to use one and there will be flexible borrowing periods to suit your organisation.
e-cargo bikes are an affordable, efficient and sustainable way to move things around in the Garden Town
What’s more, they help reduce congestion and assist in moving day-to-day operations away from traditional car and van use and towards active and sustainable travel while giving businesses more time and energy to engage with customers
The e-cargo bikes are currently being used by Harlow Council and Harlow College for transporting goods.
The four bikes have been christened Billy Brakes, Electric Storm, Funky Gibberd and Peddly Weddly in a competition which saw Harlow residents submitting their ideas for names.
We are looking for expressions of interest to see what the appetite is like in the local area for this.

WHY USE AN E-CARGO BIKE?
- Environmental: no emissions or air pollution. Going green is great for business, CSR and something to shout about with customers.
Improved wellbeing: cycling improves both mental and physical wellbeing and has been shown to reduce staff absences due to illness.
Electric assisted: a handy boost for those tricky hills or heavy loads so you don’t get a sweat on. The electric-assist will boost speed up to 15.5mph but you can go faster with a bit of pedaling.
Cheap: No fuel costs, no MOT, no tax, we are lending the bikes out for free and we also cover basic maintenance check-ups.
Get your business noticed: e-cargo bikes turn heads and spark interest.
Flexible: e-cargo bikes can use cycle paths, roads, bus lanes, and places cars and vans can’t get to, allowing them to avoid congestion and often making them quicker.
Convenient: you can park a cargo bike on the doorstep of your business or customer making loading and unloading simple.

WHO CAN USE THE HGGT E-CARGO BIKES?
We are currently looking for expressions of interest from local Harlow organisations, businesses and charities.
Unfortunately, this isn’t available for private residents but watch this space as we want to include e-cargo bikes in the future that residents can use too!
The e-cargo bike should be used for business purposes and ideally would replace trips currently made by car or van.
They can’t be used to transport people, only goods – again, watch this space!
