Endorsed by our council partners and a 2022 Essex Housing Awards winner, we’re planning to build a sustainable transport network, it will give priority to walking, cycling routes and bus routes.
We want to provide a bus system that gives real choice to people in how they move around. This is active travel and it will create a healthier population.
We are aiming for journeys in the new Garden Town communities and across Harlow to be possible by alternatives to the car.
But it won’t happen overnight and we know it’s a big change.
First Bus research reveals that half of UK adults would take the bus more often if they knew it had a positive impact on the environment.
Our council partners are developing a bus rapid transit scheme which will look at ways to reduce carbon emission from vehicles.
It will have better capacity and reliability than a conventional bus system and it will travel on a series of new local routes.
The first route is about to start construction in the next few months with the first phase being Burnt Mill Roundabout to Harlow Town Centre.
Over time it will extend up to the proposed seven new Garden Town communities in Gilston.
