Award winning housebuilders, Taylor Wimpey, have joined the Garden Town project by becoming the new developers for Village 7 in Gilston.
Village 7 sits within the wider Harlow & Gilston Garden Town development, the second largest growth initiative in the South-East region with over 23,000 homes being built across four new neighbourhoods alongside the regeneration of Harlow town centre.
Having purchased the site from City and Provincial, Taylor Wimpey will deliver a residential led mixed use development comprising up to 1,500 new homes, with 40% allocated as affordable housing and a range of community facilities.
Taylor Wimpey will work with Places for People, the project developers for Villages 1-6, on the delivery of core shared infrastructure.
The site is subject to a pending outline planning application, with a decision expected later on in the year.
Andy Holloway, Land and Planning Director for Taylor Wimpey North Thames, said: “Working alongside Taylor Wimpey London, we are delighted to have completed the purchase of Gilston Village 7. The site is in a fantastic location and part of a very exciting scheme for the area.
“Our plans include the delivery of 1500 high quality new homes, leisure and sports amenities, a mixed use local village centre, primary school, and early years and nursery facilities for local people to use and enjoy.
“Subject to obtaining outline planning permission, we anticipate development of Gilston Village 7 to commence in 2023.”
Harlow & Gilston Garden Town Director, Naisha Polaine, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Taylor Wimpey to the Harlow & Gilston project as they share so many of our Garden Town principles.
“From designing award winning and energy efficient homes to creating landscaped green space and community hubs and facilities, Taylor Wimpey’s involvement will ensure our future generation can enjoy a great life in the Garden Town.”
