Another famous brand has moved to the Garden Town area with Swedish home furnishings giant IKEA officially opening its doors at Harlow Retail Park last week.
Creating 40 new jobs for local people, IKEA’s move to Harlow follows in the footsteps of David Lloyd Leisure who are counting down to the launch of their health and wellness facility in New Hall later this year.
The new IKEA store is the first of three compact-format outlets set to open across the UK in 2025 with Norwich and Chester also lined up.
Designed for convenience and accessibility, the Harlow branch offers a curated showroom, seasonal collections, and a wide range of furnishings and home essentials available for same-day purchase or next-day collection.
Planning services for kitchens and bedroom storage are also available alongside a selection of Swedish food for those wishing to dine in or take away.
Jakob Bertilsson, IKEA Area Manager, said: “We’re thrilled to open in Harlow, bringing Swedish design and convenient home shopping closer to more people.
“This new format allows customers to enjoy the IKEA experience without the need to travel to our larger stores in London, Lakeside or Milton Keynes.”
Councillor Dan Swords, Leader of Harlow Council and Chair of HGGT, welcomed the opening as a sign that the town is becoming a go-to-destination: “The arrival of IKEA is a major vote of confidence in Harlow’s future.
“It brings jobs, services, and sustainable home solutions to our community.
“And with David Lloyd Leisure also set to open later this year, we’re seeing a real momentum in attracting high-profile brands to the town.”
