Light Up Broad Walk this Christmas

Harlow’s redeveloped Broad Walk area will be centre stage this Christmas.

Part of Harlow Council’s wider Town Centre regeneration, Light-Up Broad Walk will kick off this year’s festivities on Saturday 6 December before the launch of the Christmas Market on Saturday 13 December, running through to Sunday 21 December.

And to celebrate the festive announcement, Cllr Dan Swords, Leader of Harlow Council and Chair of Harlow & Gilston Garden Town, is part of a Love Actually inspired video, filmed in Harlow with local residents.

Visitors can expect a dazzling display of lights, glittering Christmas trees, enchanting performances including magical drummers, and a heartwarming community atmosphere as families gather in the newly redeveloped Broad Walk area to start celebrating the Christmas period.

The area will be lined with traditional wooden cabins twinkling with lights, each offering a charming mix of handcrafted gifts, seasonal treats, and delicious food and drink.

The scent of mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, hot chocolate, sizzling German bratwurst and freshly made churros will fill the air, while families can join in creative workshops such as wreath-making, bauble painting, and gingerbread decorating.

On weekends, the festivities will grow even livelier, with immersive cabins to explore, enchanting wandering characters, and a programme of live entertainment bringing the spirit of Christmas to life in the heart of Harlow.

Looking ahead to December, Cllr Dan Swords, commented: “This year, we’re bringing something truly special to Harlow town centre for the festive season.

“The newly transformed Broad Walk will be the shining heart of our Christmas celebrations – brighter, bolder and more beautiful than ever before. This is a major market with rows of log cabins, specialist food vendors, local gifts and so much more.

“From the spectacular light-up on 6 December to the festive market and family activities, we’re creating a new and magical experience for everyone in Harlow.

“We want to make Christmas in our town extra special this year, focused on community, joy, and making memories, and we’re proud to be delivering an extravaganza that reflects the ambition and spirit of our town.

“I can’t wait to see families, friends, and visitors getting together to celebrate in our rapidly transforming town centre.

“This is all part of our plan to Build Harlow’s Future and restore pride in our town.”
