Market Square in Harlow, artist impression of landscaped area with vendor stalls

Major Step for Harlow’s Market Square

Works have now begun on the redevelopment of Harlow’s Market Square, marking the next major step in transforming the heart of the town centre.

Led by Garden Town partner, Harlow Council, the project aims to re‑establish Market Square as a key destination with new seasonal vendor spaces, bars, and restaurants.

The redevelopment will revitalise Market Square and the surrounding buildings, including Market House, creating new facilities and amenities for both existing residents and the growing communities that will move to the Garden Town area over the coming years.

As part of the project, Market House will undergo a significant makeover with flexible workspace provider, CoSpace, set to occupy the upper floors, creating a business hub that supports local entrepreneurs, expanding companies, and national firms.

The building is expected to bring around 300 new jobs when it reopens later this year.

The investment into Market Square aligns with Harlow & Gilston Garden Town’s vision to deliver new employment opportunities alongside new housing, with an ambition to create 1,000 jobs each year over the next two decades.

The Market Square redevelopment forms a key element of the wider regeneration of Harlow Town Centre and complements last summer’s Government announcement that the UK Health Security Agency will relocate to the town over the next decade.
