A seven-week closure of Eastwick Road is due to start this month as part of Harlow & Gilston Garden Town’s Central Stort Crossing North programme.
Funded by Homes England and being delivered by Gilston Area developers, Places for People and Barratt Redrow, the Central Stort Crossing programme includes improvements along the A414/Eastwick Road and Fifth Avenue/Zelenskyy Avenue from 21 September.
Once complete, the improvements will provide enhanced connectivity between the new Gilston neighbourhoods and Harlow, improve journey times, support walking, cycling and public transport, and help accommodate future growth across the Harlow & Gilston Garden Town area.
The programme also includes the installation of construction accesses off the A414 to provide safe entry and exit points for the upcoming Gilston development.
Eastwick Roundabout is also set to be converted into a traffic signal-controlled junction in a future phase of works.
The current plan is for the eastbound carriageway of Eastwick Road at the A414/Zelenskyy Avenue roundabout to be closed for seven weeks, from 21 September to 8 November.
This means the road will be closed between the roundabout and the entrance to Terlings Park.
The A414 will remain open for traffic entering and leaving Harlow.
A signed diversion route will be in place via High Wych.
Road users are advised to follow the signed diversion route, as other road projects are taking place across the area.
To minimise the long-term impact on residents and road users along Eastwick Road, temporary two-way traffic lights will be installed at the Burnt Mill junction to enable BT diversion works to take place.
This will be delivered in phases from 14 September with all residents retaining access to their homes.
Fifth Avenue/Zelenskyy Avenue will also have two-way traffic lights for night-time works that include installing and diverting utility services, as well as improving drainage.
The single lane closures on the A414 dual carriageway will remain until early 2027.
