Big congratulations to our partners across Essex County Council and Essex Highways who picked up two awards for projects linked to Harlow & Gilston Garden Town at the recent Institute of Civil Engineers East of England Awards.
Essex County Council, Essex Highways and their contractors, Bouygues and Colas, were recognised as Best Project – Team of the Year for their collaborative work delivering the first phase of the Garden Town’s Sustainable Transport Corridor between Harlow Town Centre and Harlow Town railway station.
The infrastructure supports HGGT’s commitment to enabling more active and sustainable journeys, giving residents and visitors greater choice when travelling by bus, bike and on foot.
Fully funded through a £182 million Housing Infrastructure Fund grant from Homes England, secured via Hertfordshire County Council, the corridor provides new bus lanes in both directions alongside improved walking and cycling routes, public realm enhancements, trees, signage and lighting.
Their second award saw the resurfaced walking and cycling route between Harlow’s Nettleswell Orchard and the Pinnacles recognised as Best Infrastructure Project (Small).
Delivered as part of the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan, the dedicated 1.4-mile route also benefited from new street lighting, improved drainage and upgraded tabletop crossings.
Colleagues from Essex County Council and Essex Highways were on hand to collect the awards.
Well done to everyone involved in both projects.
