Harlow and the wider Garden Town’s place as a nationally significant growth location has been reinforced following Government confirmation of a £3.52 billion funding envelope for the new UK Health Security Agency Biosecurity Centre.
Coming forward in the Pinnacles area of Harlow and expected to be fully operational by September 2038, the investment will establish one of Europe’s leading centres for health security, creating a major scientific and innovation asset within Harlow, the Garden Town development and the wider London-Cambridge Innovation Corridor.
The Biosecurity Centre will increase the speed and scale of research into dangerous pathogens and life-saving vaccines, boosting healthcare and economic growth while protecting UK national security.
Around 1,600 new jobs will support site delivery with main construction expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2029.
The Biosecurity Centre will also deliver 2,750 high-quality jobs and £80 million a year injected into the local economy once completed.
