HGGT Underway with New Rest Stop

Harlow & Gilston Garden Town is officially underway with the unveiling of a new onion shaped rest stop where Newhall Way meets London Road.

The structure, built in partnership with Harlow Council, will be part of the Garden Town’s proposed public travel route in the area that will focus on cycling, walking and rapid bus transit.

Known as a Sustainable Transport Corridor, the route would enable residents to travel from the proposed East of Harlow neighbourhood to the regenerated Town Centre and the new Travel Hub and Interchange, allowing connections to other Garden Town communities in Latton Priory, Water Lane, Gilston and beyond.

And joining the rest stop structure is a new Garden Town branded walking and cycling way that links Harlow Innovation Park with Kao Park, allowing for quicker movement between the two sites with plans for an onsite café to follow next year.

Speaking about the two schemes, HGGT Director, Naisha Polaine said: “Harlow & Gilston Garden Town is one of the biggest growth  projects in the UK and we want existing residents to see the roots of progress and take enjoyment from our plans, however small.

“The new rest stop is something that we hope can become a well-known place locally and used on a daily basis ahead of the future Sustainable Transport Corridor.

“And the new connection between Harlow Innovation Park and Kao Park shows you can be creative in a confined area, turning scrubland into a proper pathway between the sites for easier access.

“It’s a really exciting time locally with clearance works for the new Arts & Cultural Quarter in Playhouse Square and College Square continuing and Occasio House now demolished.

“And we anticipate works on Terminus Street to begin shortly as our Garden Town partners, Harlow Council, lookahead to the turning the bus station into a new and modern Travel Hub and Interchange.”
