Our five Council partners have teamed up with CitizenLab to give residents a dedicated online engagement hub, click here to get involved and help us shape policy, programmes and specific projects.

Harlow & Gilston Garden Town provides one of the most exciting growth opportunities of any place in the UK. The project will create exciting new communities in Harlow with many new homes. It will support regeneration of the Town Centre and provide fantastic new job opportunities, including the arrival of Public Health England’s new world-leading life-sciences facility.

When Harlow was created as a New Town some 70 years ago, it grew from a vision shaped by Sir Frederick Gibberd, acknowledged as one of the leading architect planners of his time. Gibberd saw the town as ‘an organism which would go on changing and being rebuilt as the needs of the people changed.’

Since then, Harlow has grown and so has its ambition, its demands and its needs. The Garden Town proposals respond to these changes and grasp the opportunity that its location at the heart of the UK’s Innovation Corridor presents – with exceptional links to London, Stansted Airport and Cambridge.

Harlow and Gilston Garden Town will see major investment in infrastructure. It will see the provision of quick, high quality and affordable ways to travel around without using a car. It will also bring new schools; new health facilities, including a brand-new state-of-the art hospital; new community facilities; and will see vast new areas of public green spaces becoming available for all to enjoy.

The scale and quality of this new development will allow Harlow to realise its strategic potential within the London to Cambridge Innovation Corridor and to play a vital part in the regional economy.

This website sets out a vision for the Garden Town and explains some of the benefits the Garden Town will bring for both existing and future residents. It will also provide regular updates on all the latest news and developments.

Consultation with the local community will be key. At every stage, we want to share and discuss the plans with you. We want to hear from you – we need your thoughts and ideas.
