Partner councils have been reacting to Harlow & Gilston Garden Town picking up an Essex Housing Award in the Building Garden Communities category earlier this month.
The Garden Town’s transport vision was the winning entry with the Essex Housing Award judges citing it as “An exceptional project. We were impressed by their focus on ‘Streets for People’, making them pleasant to travel in, safe and healthy, less congested, accessible and inclusive, community-centred and enjoyable for all.”

Speaking on behalf of Essex County Council, Cllr Lesley Wagland OBE, said: “The Harlow Gilston Garden Town Transport Strategy is a great example of innovation and ambition, with the strategy being developed with our partners to support the delivery of garden community principles, as well as our sustainable transport and net zero ambitions.
“It is fantastic to see the strategy recognised at the Essex Housing Awards this year.”
Cllr Nigel Bedford of Epping Forest District Council added: “The Garden Town is one of the most exciting regeneration opportunities for sustainable development in the UK and we are proud to be part of it.
“The HGGT Vision identifies four new Garden Neighbourhoods in and around Harlow. Three of the sites are within Epping Forest District – Water Lane, Latton Priory and East of Harlow – all bringing new homes, infrastructure and services to future residents.”
