Nettleswell Orchard to Pinnacles Route Resurfaced

A well-used walking and cycling route connecting Harlow Town Centre with businesses at The Pinnacles on Elizabeth Way has been given a major upgrade as part of Harlow & Gilston Garden Town.

Initially built alongside Sir Frederick Gibberd’s Harlow New Town development, the dedicated 1.4 mile cycle/footway is not only a key route connecting businesses to Harlow Town Centre at Netteswell Orchard but is well used by commuters and those travelling into the town centre.

Funded by Essex County Council’s Active Travel Fund grant from Government, the upgraded route will also link with the under construction Sustainable Transport Corridor to provide a link to the Town Park and Railway Station.

Identified as being in need of upgrade, the £2million scheme started in May 2024 and has seen the route fully resurfaced, new streetlighting installed, drainage improved and new tabletop crossings installed at both the west and eastern ends of Hodings Road.

Welcoming completion of the scheme, Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Highways Infrastructure, and Sustainable Transport at Essex County Council said: “Across our towns and cities we are working to identify and improve key walking and cycling routes, providing safer, greener, healthier travel options for our communities.

“This particular route is very well used and I am delighted that that we have been able to complete this scheme on schedule and provide a much-improved facility for local people.”
